How the numbers are worked out
Sea freight bills one cubic metre as 1000 kg; air freight uses the IATA 1:6000 divisor, or 166.67 kg per CBM.
The chargeable weight is the greater of gross and volumetric — a light, bulky shipment is billed on its size.
Dimensions convert from centimetres, inches or metres before the volume is taken.
